Filtration Application

...Impact of Non Woven in filtration Application Abstract Textile filters can be mainly of two types: woven and nonwovens. Woven fabric offer some advantages like easy estimation of its pore size distribution, which relates to filtration efficiency. This means woven fabrics can be produced with required filtration efficiency by changing its weave parameters and yarn properties. When compared with woven filter medium, nonwoven filter media offers many advantages like high permeability, higher number of pores per unit area, better cake release property, no slippage of yarn as in case of woven fabrics, higher filtration efficiency. Lower manufacturing cost and variability makes them suitable for all types of filtration jobs. Nonwoven filter is porous fabric which is made up of randomly arranged fibres or filaments. Its main function is to separate suspended particles or components of gas or fluid passing through it. There are many applications of filter media requiring different profile, conditions and of course different fibre materials. Filter equipments used in application also affects the type of filter medium to be used. Conventionally natural fibres like cotton, cellulose, asbestos were used, which are now replaced by synthetic fibres and glass fibres. In the presentation we will be discussing about more about high performance filters i.e they will be used at high temperature and high chemical reactive conditions. We have studied the paper like “Chemical and thermal......

Is the Filtration of Groundwater Important?

...Is the filtration of groundwater important? Charity Palmer SCI 207: Dependence of Man of the Environment Instructor Holly Dust July 27th 2014 Abstract Industrialization and increasing demands on agriculture around the world is rapidly polluting our ground water. The human population depends on ground water as our biggest source of drinking water. A few simple experiments have been done to find out what changes some of the contaminants cause in the ground water. Samples of tap water and bottled water were analyzed for safety. Chemicals such as oil, vinegar, and liquid detergent cause odor changes and color changes in the water samples. Using sand, charcoal and rocks formed a filtration system that was used to simulate how water is filtered. Tap water turned out to be the safest water to drink, which was rather surprising. The tap water had less contamination than the bottled water during the experiment. Introduction Clean water is a major necessity for our lives. Three-quarters of the Earth’s surface is covered by water making clean water for drinking and cooking an important issue. The majority of water on our planet is comprised of salt water found in the oceans. That leaves only three percent of the water on Earth freshwater. (Dale 2011) Human beings used 69.3 gallons of water per individual each day on average. (Dale 2011) Water is used to do our laundry, wash our cars, feed our pets, water the gardens and lawns we have. Water is used for us to......

Extracting Oil from an Avocado

...Extracting Oil from an Avocado Hyunji Lee Aisha Bada Faye Aquino Dongwon Lee Nicole Bulawan Chantal Zalamea Chelceed Viernes 2I Mrs. Pedernal Biology Research II High School Department Colegio San Agustin, Makati CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION Background of the Study Avocado oil is the edible oil pressed from the fleshy pulp of avocados. Avocado oil can be used for both cooking and cosmetic purposes. It is considered to be a useful and natural substance, but it is expensive. Its unusually high smoking point and aromatic flavor make it suitable for both high temperature frying and grilling, as well as an emulsifying salad oil. Nutritionally, avocado oil ranks comparably to olive oil with its low cholesterol level. The researchers observed that avocado is a relatively expensive fruit, purchasing avocado oil from your local market can cost a significant amount. The researchers realized that the reason of it being expensive is because it has a very desirable quality as food oil. It has outstanding benefits to people when it comes health. With that realization, the researchers decided to conduct an experiment about extracting oil from avocados. Statement of the Problem This research aims to find a way to extract oil from an avocado. It wishes to find natural oil from avocados. It aims to know the answer to the following questions: 1. Would avocado be able to produce oil? 2. How would oil be extracted from avocados? 3. Would the avocado......

Water Filtration

...Island, Hempstead has more poverty and low income families. The financial situations in low-income areas could be a reason why their water has more pollutants and chemicals. Water is essential for human life, but more than 3.4 million people every year die from water, sanitation, and hygine related causes. 780 million people around the world do not have access to clean water, and an American taking a 5 minute shower uses more water than the average person is a developing country uses in an entire day. Water conservation is something that everyone can do in order to keep our water safe and clean. Turning off the tap when it’s not necessary prevents water shortages and reduces the amount of contaminated water that needs treatment. Paints, oils, and other forms of litter should never be thrown down the sink or toilet. Usuing environmentally safe housewold products can reduce contamination. Do not overuse pesticides and fertilizer because it can cause runoff into nearby water sources. Most importantly, do not throw trash into rivers, lakes, or oceans. Help by cleaning up beaches and preventing litter from going into the water system. These are things that everyone can do to protect the safety of our water. Compared to developing countries, we are very fournaate to have access to water that is safe to drink. We should appreciate this resource and work towards keeping it clean and plentiful. Water Filtration

...the taps and plumbing, has been rectified in July 2010 (Buzza, 2011). The concern of bacteria within the water supply, we believe, is the most pressing issue that needs to be resolved. As a group we each collected data on different filtration options looking at ease of use and maintenance, power requirements, costs, if the process will remove the bacteria that are present in the Devikulam water supply, availability of materials and the life expectancy of each process. This data was collated into a trade-off analysis template and the criteria was weighted from most important requirements i.e. the removal of the bacteria to the least important. This template then calculated the best options for the village from the information we entered. Due to the simplicity but effectiveness, slow sand filtration is the most viable and cost effective option. It removes 90-99% of all bacteria from the water leaving behind safe clean drinking water. After contacting EWB about the availability of sand in the area it was found that there is enough sand within the village to be able to pursue this process. The other benefit to this method is it has been tried and tested in similar situations around the world. There are many options available for slow sand filtration from large units that can supply the entire village with clean water to stand-alone units that can be placed in each household. After looking at these options the most cost effective and simplistic option is the individual......

Difference of Palm Oil Press Processing and Other Plant Oil Processing

...Palm oil press differ from conventional plant oil material Palm oil press roughly divided into five steps: 1. Palm oil press material receiving storage section Take the fresh and mature palm fruit to discharge table. Make fruit free fall into the cage in the cage. 2. Palm oil press sterilization Sterilization for about 60 minutes, high-temperature cooking oil palm fruit pulp of lipase, to avoid oil free fatty acid content increases. To facilitate mechanical threshing, soft fruit, also is advantageous to the subsequent core shell, reduce the breakage of the nuts. 3. Palm oil press section of take off the fruit section Oil palm fruit grain occupy about 60% of the whole fruit bouquet, threshing purpose is to isolate the palm fruit from the bouquet. After the separation of oil palm fruit discharge, palm fruit can be put into press section. 4. The whole palm oil press section Crushing and cooking to tear fruit skin, separate the pulp and the core and mash pulp tissue, heat at the same time to make soft flesh, destruction flesh cell structure. Then put the palm fruit into screw press machine 5. Palm oil processing -squeeze oil cleaning section After squeezing we can get crude palm oil, after washed with water, diluted after sedimentation, filtration, efiber material can be removed from the oil, which is roughly the technology of palm oil press. Conventional oil squeezing approximately two kinds: hot press and cold press: peanut hot press as an example. When Hot pressing,......

Bed of granular material over a gravel bed is used to treat water. This process imitates a natural treatment that occurs as water runs through the soil. During the pass through, several processes such as physical, chemical as well as biological take place in the filter media. Sand filtration can be classified by filtration modes according to the flow regimen slow sand filtration and rapid sand filtration. There are also other classifications......

...to uphold their water treatment regulations. Another important decision under the Bush administration was to allow “sediment runoff at oil and gas construction sites” into surface water, which would increase water treatment costs (“Troubled Waters” 16). These two actions under the Bush administration have frequently been used to attack the conservative agenda, but like every two-sided story, the liberal view is not completely innocent. For example, after “$2.3 million in federal grants” were given to the EPA to improve rural drinking water, not all of that money left Washington, but served as campaign money for liberal lobbyist (Winston 1). With the majority party being republican at this time, allegiance with the EPA and its work across the nation was skeptical to say the least. Therefore, it creates a barrier between the political views of Republicans and Democrats. In order to adhere to each side, a compromise must be made, but it ultimately lies in the hands of the water treatment plants and their administration across the nation. I believe that insuring safe drinking water is a process of treatments that each water treatment plant must focus on. The next three sections provide the foundations of these treatments, illuminating the advantages and disadvantages of each. In addition, techniques of membrane filtration and chemical filtration will be presented from experimental data to concur a precise evaluation of how to improve drinking water; this data and research......
