My First Day of Work Everybody in high school looks forward to getting a job. I was sixteen, and some of my friends already had jobs. I wanted my own money to spend and was tired of asking my parents for money. Claire’s, Beacon Cinemas (theatre), and TJ Maxx were places that I had always wanted to work. I just thought it was time that I applied somewhere and I decided to apply at the theatre. About three days later, after submitting my application, I received a call from the assistant manager of the theatre who asked me to come in for an interview. I wore an all blue blouse, black dress pants, and black sandals. When I walked through the double doors I was nervous. All I could smell was the scent of freshly popped popcorn. The thought of me having a job with a surrounding aroma of buttery goodness was amazing. This place was huge and very busy. There were several televisions playing the latest songs and trailers from previews of upcoming movies, and kettles were turning behind the popcorn counter. Employees of the theatre told me that I could sit and wait for the assistant manager. I waited on the nearest bench, and when he came out he had a big smile on his face. He was about 5’8”, had a clipboard in his right hand, and he wore a burgundy suit and tie. We greeted each other and proceeded to his office for the interview. As I entered his office, the general manager of the theatre was waiting for us. After we greeted each other she immediately preceded to ask her first question, “Tell me about yourself?” Suddenly, my mind went blank and I did not know exactly what to say. I thought to myself, “What if I say the wrong thing? Will they no longer be interested in hiring me?” Although I was still nervous an answer seemed to come straight out of nowhere. From that point on, my interview went as smooth…...

My First Job

...Jason McDonnell Quentin Overton English 111 x April 24, 2014 My First Job  My first job was that of a cattle rancher on our family ranch. As a kid I loathed having to work with cattle, fix fence and windmills. I learned to appreciate it later in life as I thought about how the experience shaped my work habits. My Granddad grew up in the sand hills of Nebraska on his father’s ranch. Grandma wanted to move to town, so the big ranch was sold and the one I grew up on was bought. My brother, sister and I had always been expected to do chores around the house and take care of the yard. Most brothers and sisters dislike each other from time to time, but we were family, we didn’t stay mad long, or else it would end up in a hand holding session out on the front porch. I'd spend the next 18 years enslaved to there. I worked every weekend and summer often sun up to sundown. There are no days off when you have a ranch. This upbringing provided a wonderful relationship with my Granddad. As I grew older and was eventually paid $300 a summer, I started to appreciate the pride that came with having money in my pocket. More importantly, I realized we were not only feeding our family but supporting a way of life. At the end of a long hot summer day came a strong sense of accomplishment as we finished up branding 215 calves. There were many days when personal plans had to be cancelled due to an issue on the ranch. Usually it was broken down equipment, broken fence, or a windmill that......

My Dream Job

...My dream job would be to become a Nurse. I love working with people and helping in any way that I can. Most people get sick when they see blood and bones. I like to learn about the human anatomy. I am very good at dealing with people who are sick. Being in hospitals does not bother me to most people it does. I have an aunt who is a nurse at Baptist; she loves her job and is extremely good at it. That is what inspired me to become a nurse. I also have a lot of cousins that are nurses. Making people healthy is a goal that I as well try to follow by. Everyone should feel good about themselves. Nursing takes a huge commitment; you have to study a lot and also may have to work double shifts. Working is something I enjoy doing, I would not mind working double shifts if I was needed to. Depending on what type of nursing you go to school for depends a lot on the type of studies required for that field. Most nursing you do have to know a lot about the human body as well as math and chemistry. To me you would have to like science, and being around people who are hurt and need your help. Going to school is how I am receiving the requirements for my dream job. Making money is always a huge part of a job, especially in this economy. .I would like to have a job that I love doing and make little money rather than have a job I hate making a lot of money. If I was asked to travel as a traveling nurse I would agree to go anywhere they wanted me to. It would give me a great chance to see the......

My Summer Job

...though it was never cleaned and as he passed by, one could get the smell of garbage implying that this man lived and slept on the sidewalks. As he shuffled outside again, all the patrons turned to look at him, regarding him as a disgusting, bothersome fly. My kindness extended to the man as I made it my duty to collect old clothing which the neighbours in my street wished to discard and I would give it to the old man when he came into the store. My fellow co-workers questioned my actions and I would just consider it as a kind deed to an unfortunate human. On several occasions, when the old man came into the shop, I would notice the owner, Mr Job, speaking to him harshly and gesticulating wildly, but I never did question his actions for I thought that Mr Job was plainly scolding the man for always coming into the shop and disturbing the customers. A week later, Mr Job’s father died and two days after the funeral, when everyone resumed work, I was, for some strange reason, quite jumpy and nervous. I was also surprised to see that my friend, the old man, had not been into the coffee shop as yet in order to get his meal. This just added to my unexplanative anxiety. Suddenly, the doorbell tinkled dangerously, and as I looked up, my mouth fell open in utter amazement. The old man was not shuffling, but striding through the door with a well-groomed black and white ensemble, unlike his shabby coat, his face was well shaven and he looked clean and well-kept, unlike his former dirty......

My Job

...Improving Organizational Performance at AirDevils Linking job satisfaction and organization productivity directly to an employee’s psychological state within the workplace is possible using theory of motivation. Rectifying psychological causes such as dissatisfaction motivate employees to perform tasks well, thus leading to productive behavior. Rectifying psychological factors can remove workplace stressors and relieve issues employees face in the workplace. AirDevils is a company full of dissatisfied and stressed employees. Although they may seem linked, the cause for dissatisfaction is not the cause for stress or vice versa as two specific groups make up the company. The performers make up one group and the supporting crewmembers make up the other. Dissatisfied performers create a downward spiral in productivity, and stressed crewmembers are unavailable or missing from work. The job characteristics theory of motivation is applicable to both groups to create improved job satisfaction and organizational productive by lowering stress. Improving the performers behavior by incorporating new stunts in routines can create a better aerial performance. In turn, AirDevils may begin to win awards in competition with the new routine, leading to improved job satisfaction. Some crewmembers are also aspiring performers, but too many are not able to keep pace because of injury and job stress. To reduce dissatisfaction and stressors, AirDevils must alleviate problems between performers......

But I pursue to continue to have my OJT because it is for my own good. Ms. Emily assigned me at making the pizza which is pretty cool for me because I really want putting toppings in the pizza. My Best Job

...lucky enough to find such a restaurant. After serving here at Vescio’s Italian Restaurant for over two years this is my testimonial as to why serving at a family run restaurant is the best job experience I have ever had and why you as current or prospective servers should take into account such a fantastic experience. Frank T. Vescio opened Vescio’s Italian Restaurant in 1956. He passed away in 1987 but the restaurant has lived on by his son Frank C. Vescio. Vescio’s has been serving authentic Italian cooking and tradition ever since. My first experience with Vescio’s was the Interview. The interview process is less rigorous than I have ever experienced, especially taking into account the chain restaurants I have worked at; Applebee’s and Panera Bread. I went into Vescio’s Italian Restaurant on a Wednesday afternoon midsummer. The girl I was dating at the time worked at the restaurant for about a month when she had mentioned that her boyfriend was in need of a job and that he was capable of doing anything. Donna G. the current server manager was the interviewer. She is an older woman that has been working at the restaurant for over 40 years, she reminded me of my grandmother, extremely young at heart and always willing to learn from the younger generation of servers. After a few minutes of speaking with her I had the job. For Applebee’s and Panera Bread my hand hurt after the hours of paperwork that had to be filled out. I started working only a few days later and I did...

My Utopia Job

... Haley Lytle Principles of Management My Utopia Job 6/16/2016 Haley Lytle Lytle 1 6/16/2016 Three Needs Before this course, I never really stopped to consider what my strengths in management consist of. As I went through the course and learned about the various management strengths, I began to create a clear picture of what I can do well. The strengths I have come to recognize are adapting, planning, and self-management. Management is the process of dealing with or controlling people or things, and with this, comes a lot of information. Having strong management skills furthers you not only in your career, but in your personal life as well. An organizational culture is related to organizational success. Adaptability falls under this category. “Adaptability is the ability to notice and respond to changes in the organization’s environment.”(Williams 104) Any culture can become dysfunctional if it doesn’t embrace change, because everything is constantly changing all the time whether we move with it or not. Ever since I was born, I’ve had to learn how to adapt in order to survive, so I believe this is one of my strongest management strengths. Being born three months early, moving more times then I know – including going to four different kinder gardens in different states, and doing my fair share of traveling out of the country has built a natural ability to change when the environment changes. An individual should be accepting of change in their personal life, and......
