Love at first sight is real if you believe

The first time he saw the beautiful young woman across the crowded room, their eyes met. One week later he told her he loved her. Three months later, they were married.
Does this really ever happen outside of the movies?
Scientists say we are genetically wired for the possibility of love at first sight, but why it happens to some people and not others is largely a matter of timing and self-assurance.
If you are lucky enough to fall in love immediately and the feeling is mutual, it still isn’t possible to know if it will last. A dinner date that starts on a love-struck note could turn sour before the check arrives, yet another “lightning just struck us” couple will go on to have a life-long relationship. Because love is hard to replicate in a lab, there is little research on when and why—and for whom—love at first sight works out.
According to an annual “Singles in America” survey of more than 5,000 singles ages 21 to 70-plus, sponsored by the dating site, 59% of men and 49% of women in 2014 said they believe in love at first sight, and 41% of men and 29% of women say they have experienced it.
The survey and numerous psychological studies have found men fall in love faster than women, says Helen Fisher, a biological anthropologist and New York City-based senior research fellow at the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction. “Men are so visual,” she says. “They see a woman who appeals to them physically, and it will trigger the romantic love system faster.” She adds, “Women are custodians of the egg, so they are more careful romantically.”
Romantic love is one of three systems—along with the sex drive and feelings of deep attachment—that humans developed for mating. Romantic love’s intense desire for connection with the other person typically lasts 18 months to three years, experts say.…...

...trends that may help identify characteristics of our most favorable target market. Given the volume of the data, we decided to focus on the amount spent as our primary dependent variable, and selective independent variables. We first analyzed the qualitative data by performing chi-tests between each of the variables gender, own home, married, location, and previous customer. Out of these relationships, it appeared that there were definite correlations between such relationships as Gender & Own Home, Gender & Married Status, Own Home & Married status, and Previous Customer & Married Status. For instance, it is not completely random that our male customers, on average, are 23% more married and own 15% more homes than our female customers. Also, our married customers own 84% more homes than single customers, and on average our married customers make up 12.5% more of our previous customer base. This data is important because it identified the relevant qualitative variables to match to quantitative variables. First of all, we decided that our important dependent variable is the amount spent from our customers in the last fiscal year as this is ultimately what our goal should be. Secondly, that men are our primary target audience. We first begin by establishing the fact that men, on average, spend $388 more on our products than women do. We then ran linear regressions between the quantitative variables: age, salary, children, and catalogs sent. The average age......

...ONE DOLLAR AND EIGHTY-SEVEN CENTS. THAT WAS ALL. AND SIXTY CENTS of it was in pennies. Pennies saved one and two at a time by bulldozing the grocer and the vegetable man and the butcher until one's cheeks burned with the silent imputation of parsimony that such close dealing implied. Three times Della counted it. One dollar and eighty-seven cents. And the next day would be Christmas. There was clearly nothing left to do but flop down on the shabby little couch and howl. So Della did it. Which instigates the moral reflection that life is made up of sobs, sniffles, and smiles, with sniffles predominating. While the mistress of the home is gradually subsiding from the first stage to the second, take a look at the home. A furnished flat at $8 per week. It did not exactly beggar description, but it certainly had that word on the look-out for the mendicancy squad. In the vestibule below was a letter-box into which no letter would go, and an electric button from which no mortal finger could coax a ring. Also appertaining thereunto was a card bearing the name "Mr. James Dillingham Young." The "Dillingham" had been flung to the breeze during a former period of prosperity when its possessor was being paid $30 per week. Now, when the income was shrunk to $20, the letters of "Dillingham" looked blurred, as though they were thinking seriously of contracting to a modest and unassuming D. But whenever Mr. James Dillingham Young came home and reached his flat above he was called......

...approach to investigate on the topic of why men fall in love more than women. Men are more likely to falling in love if they over perceive sexual interest and physical attractiveness in women. Hence, women have become skeptical in a relationship. First hypothesis shows that men will usually fall in love with most recent partner, love more partners in their lifetime, experience more “love at first sight” and more unreturned love compared to females. The second hypothesis shows that individuals who over perceive others’ sexual interest will fall in love more frequently with chances to experience “love at first sight”. The third hypothesis states individuals who value physical attractiveness will have more partners, fall in love easily with latest attractive partner and more love at first sight experiences. The fourth hypothesis shows that individuals with a higher sexual desire will fall in love easily. The methods used were online questionnaire to both sexes with a sample size of 357. A qualitative research is used in a heterosexual community. Participants are 18-year-old and above. The dependent measures are the rating scale from 1 to 7. The specific measures used are timing of love, frequency of love, frequency of “love at first sight” and physical appearance of the latest partner. In hypothesis 1, the result shows that prediction on timing is not supported as there are no sexual differences between the falling in love time. Prediction on frequency is not......

The Essence of Sight

...being cherishes their eye sight; one would choose to tolerate pain in the hope that one may regain their eye sight; however, we are never shown why the human being cherishes sight so much. “(En) trance” by Chris Arthur shows the reader how this organ allows the mind to explore all different options. In this essay we see how the eyeball allows the human being to see things in a different perspective than their own and how others may perceive an image or a building based off of their own experiences and sight. We see the importance of the eyeball in regards to memory and we see its importance in the way that sight impacts people’s lives. Although “The Elegant Eyeball” by John Gamel explains the importance of the eyeball it is through “(En) trance” by Chris Arthur that we see the emotional and physical impact it has in one’s life. Throughout his essay Gamel explains how the eye works. He explains what a normal eye would possess opposed to an eye that acquired a disease, which would eventually obtain scaring. He explains the importance of the eye stating that, “Forty percent of the brain is devoted to vision, which provides us with more information than our other four senses combined” (Gamel, 39). The importance of the eye in regards to our other sense is great. In his essay “(En) trance,” Arthur explains to the reader how each person has their own viewpoint and how their own experiences allow them to achieve their personal viewpoint, however, it is sight which allows you to see......

...Love At First Sight Amber woke up late, spilt coffee on her dress, and was in a rush to make it to work on time. She was frantically running through the automatic doors when all of a sudden she collided into, Chandler, a blue eyed muscular UPS worker. Their eyes locked and she braced herself as he grabbed her arm and steadied her fall. They didn't speak but held a glance for what seemed like minutes, and then they went their separate ways. Amber walked away from that scene, heart-pounding wondering if she would ever see him again because after all it was “love at first sight.” After a first meeting, one may passionately feel as if they fell in love because the attraction is instantaneous, some may describe it as “fireworks” or “electricity” when its simply just sexual attraction. Is this attraction love at first sight? Or is it just a biological and scientific occurrence? Focusing in on the sexual attraction we see that research shows many hormones are involved in this process. Lets start at the brain, “you have motions, you also produce dopamine, a ‘feel good’ neurotransmitter that is associated with passion and addiction, and oxytocin, a hormone related to bonding” (Pincott, 4). With all of these neurotransmitters processing in the brain, it is said that ones pupils may enlarge when focusing on an object of desire (Pincott, 8). Research also shows that a person responds with their entire body when they feel desire. When one is around an object of their desire,......

...Being in love is like being in a dream. Being in love is like finally finding what has everyone has been searching for. Love comes to those who wait. Love comes to those who are not expecting it. Love especially come when we fall head over heels for a person. Love comes at first sight. Love comes from dating. Love comes from marrying. There are so many different types of love and finding of love. “Romeo and Juliet is always greeted by the young with immediate sympathy, somehow expressing the essence of love, what it ought to be, a permanent possibility, a fulfillment of every renascent hope and a thing to be admired” (Bloom 273). Throughout literature, the most noteworthy way of showing how a couple in love would do anything for each other is through Romeo and Juliet. The context of the play, Romeo and Juliet is about two wealthy and noble families in the town of Verona that are not fond of each other. “Two households, both alike in dignity (In fair Verona, where we lay our scene)” (Spark 2). There is the Montague family, where Romeo is the son. Romeo is around the age of sixteen and at this time of century this is when a boy will start searching for a wife. Even though his family is fighting against the Capulet, he doesn’t believe in it. This makes him a more susceptible character to have the ability to fall in love with out getting into other kinds of violence. He is extremely interested in love and will do whatever it takes to be with the one he loves. The girl he......

...If I Could Turn Back Time By: Tina Olinger This a true story based on my life and experience’s I have had throughout the years, the good and bad times, the happy and sad. I was born on a cold Friday morn in December 1978 in a small town of Virginia. The first born into a world of unknown and a life like no other, my sister came along in August of 1980 and later we found out we had two step sisters from my dad’s previous marriage. They lived with their grandparents and we hardly got to see them except for the holidays and occasionally in the summer time. Now as were all adults it seems we have less and less time to get together, everyone is so busy and hardly have time for anything or anyone. But we make do and enjoy the times we can have together and as many memories as well. My parents struggled raising two children but we never went without the bare essentials such as food, shelter or clothes. We may not have had a fancy house or car nor wore the best of clothes but they made do with what they had. When I was a year and half old my only grandfather passed away, my mother’s father, from a major heart attack I have very few memories of him as I was so young and my sister was still just a baby so she didn’t get to know what a kind and great man he truly was. My parents had there good and bad as most do, children do not come with instructions so they did the best they could. We hardly saw them both through the years as they both worked odd hours......

...Love is something that means very different things to different people. For some, love can be purely romantic, or even purely sexual. For others, real love is utterly unconditional and only truly exists between family members, or between people and a deity. And for some people, love is fluid, ever changing, and everywhere, and is felt for family, friends, partners, pets, and even inanimate objects, dead artists, and fictional characters. None of these people would be right or wrong, but one thing is certain: love is the most powerful force in the entire universe. Between partners of any description, be they married or cohabiting, boyfriend and girlfriend, straight or gay, young or old, love is a relationship of mutual understanding and respect. Marriages and partnerships are often built on common ground that people find when they first meet; this can be as deep as sharing religious, philosophical or religious beliefs, or as simple as finding that you love the same film, book, or band. This kind of love is often reliant on some kind of ‘chemistry’: that strange feeling that they give you in the pit of your stomach, and the feeling that nothing in the world is more important to you than enjoying the moment you’re in together. Some people feel that they experience love at first sight, where they know from the minute they set eyes on each other that they want to to be with that person, but something built on common interests and understanding must be stronger. A parent’s love......

...Summer love that last forever It was the first day of the holiday, and of course it should be celebrated with a night out with all my friends. It had been a hard school year, so the holiday was really needed. I had the last long while been searching for love, but without success. Or at least there had actually been a few, but not any one that I could see myself being with. I was getting ready with all the girls; I had the most beautiful dress and I actually thought that I was hot. It could not go wrong this night. When the clock was twelve we went into town, happy that we had summer vacation and then we arrived the disco we started to go crazy on the dance floor, and even here I could feel how all the boys looked at me. It was great with attention from all the boys. I felt really special and hot. After a while, I got very sweaty, sow I went outside to get some fresh air. And it was here Frederick grabbed my arm and asked me, if I would like to have a drink with him. My answer was yes, although I at first did ‘ten think he vas anything special. Love at First Sight

...Is Love At First Sight Possible? By Cheri Rodriguez Love at first sight is very true and would explain the different feelings we encounter within, when we see our soul mates for the first time. True love is possibly the most fulfilling of life's secret treasures. but love by a lesser standard is still extremely important for the human experience, many say that the meth about finding your true love and its existence is overrated and unnecessary. But in truth the argument against true love is created to comfort those who lack it. Love, if not true love is an crucial emotion for the human race; it is important for psychological development, social development, and in the end happiness. True love is being in a relationship that is based on something more then outward appearance of material goods, and being in a relationship in which both lovers are prepared to be committed to the other despite any hardships or mistakes their partners might make. True love is understanding each others emotional connections and allows them to develop which results in blossoming romance. In contrary , some skeptics say love at first sight is impossible because you don’t know that person . All you see is exterior and although you can like the way someone looks , you can not love them when you first see them , that’s just being judgmental and basically judging a book by its cover. When you say you love someone your insinuating that you love what they look like and who they really are .......

It is a definition and meaning that philosophers, psychologists, and biologists have been seeking since the beginning of time. Wars have been waged and fought over it, while friendships have been initiated and have ended because of this idea. But what exactly is love, and why is it important to define this enigma? In order to help define this idea of......

But if you go back and I’m no longer there, it means that I love you too much so I went to search for you.  0104. It’s a risk having you cause it’s like stealing an angel from heaven. If I’d be punished for that, I’d rather accept it than give you back cause I know that I’d never have another you in my life again.  0105. I dreamed of a wedding of elaborate elegance, a church filled with flowers and friends. I asked him what kind of wedding he wished for, he said, “One that will make you my wife.”  0106. I’m not asking you to stay for the rest of my life, stay as long as you want. ...Chapter 1: The Death Note I stared at the teacher who was currently blabbering stuff about algebra and irrational numbers. I don't really have anything against Math, except that I have low grades in it. The only subject I'm ever good at is Physical Education. Even so, I am still beaten at it by the ever so perfect “Allen Walker”. What's with him, really? He's good at everything, even in Cooking Class. Although he can't par with me in cooking commoner's food, he always cooks exquisite viands. People adore him to the very core of Earth. He's like some Buddha in school. He's like the Super Star that never existed. Anyway, I feel that it won't be good if I fill the whole first paragraph of the first chapter with every crap about him. Let’s go to me first. My name is”Haruka Azumi Yukihara”. I am a most typical female student of Hakuo Academy. My forte is Physical Education and my Achilles' heel is just about anything except Physical Education. Yes, I know that's a lot that's why I'm not enumerating it. Today is June 13, 2011 and everything is just about how everything shouldn't be. Ah, of course it's the fault of mankind, as always. At least it's not the fault of Allen-kun. Either way, I'm stuck in this school and an addiction to Death Note. Now what is Death Note? It's a story about this cool guy who kills all criminals with a pen and a notebook. Now don't go imagining him hitting the criminals with the notebook and finishes it off by piercing the pen to the criminal's......
