Jason Russle is the creator of Invisible Children Incorporation and the short film Kony 2012. Jason's

goal was to make Joseph Kony famous by encouraging supporters to plaster the United States cities

with posters, in order to make the fight against the Lord's Resistance Army an issue of “national

interest” to Washington. In the short film Kony 2012 it is said that in Uganda Joseph Kony has

abducted an estimate of 66,000 children, some of which have became soldiers or sex slaves.

Several Ugandans are out raged about Jason's film because he has mad accusations that numerous

things are happening in Uganda right now, and that we need to stop him by 2012. When really Joseph

isn't even in Uganda anymore and the war has already subsided. “There has not been a single soul from

the Lord's Resistance Army here since 2006. Now we have peace, people are back in their homes, they

are planting their fields, they are starting their businesses. That is what people should help us with”

(Unknown). Having looked over many articles and videos it shows that Ugandans are upset about

Jason's video he has made without any real evidence to back him up on his accusations. Jason didn't

even get enough research in to know what Kony's name actually is, it's pronounced “Kohn”. How are

we suppose to be convinced by his video if Jason can't even get the name right.

“My response to KONY 2012” by Rosebell Kagumire. Rosebell is originally from Uganda she saw

that there was a new issue about Joseph Kony by Jason's video so she thought she should watch it to

catch herself up. Rosebell was completely lost through out the whole video because Jason had no clue

what he was talking about. Her major problem with the video is that Jason implied that in Africa people

are hopeless and that only people who are not in that…...

...Alcohol consumption by youth in the United States has been a topic of concern for quite some time now. The law passed down in July, 1984 states, the age of 21 years as the minimum age for purchasing and publicly possessing alcoholic beverages . For this assignment I have chosen to critique a fallacy in the argument regarding the dispute of a decrease of the current age of consumption and purchasing alcohol in the United States. I believe the arguments discussed in the selected article to be fallacious because they deal generally with the positive results portrayed as an outcome in the reduction of the legal age of 21 to 18. Through analysis of this article, it will be evident that a reduced legal drinking age is a fallacious and flawed argument. Through research, I discovered a blog that is proactive with the reduction of the current drinking age. The blog states that once people turn 18 they’re considered adults, they’re responsible, and able to handle themselves. It goes on to explain the fact that once you’re 18 you are able to vote, drive, and make the decision to go to the military “why can they be mature and responsible enough to vote for a person who is going to run our country, mature and responsible enough to fly an airplane and go to war for our country, and third be mature and responsible enough to drive a vehicle”. Though this argument may be true and those responsibilities are substantial, this argument still remains fallacious as a whole. I believe the major......

Essay About Kony 2012

...Kony 2012 Imagine constantly fearing of being abducted and killed. And fearing that you could lose a family member. That's what is constantly on the minds of the children in Uganda. One day I was surfing YouTube when I came across a video called Kony 2012. Kony 2012 is a video campaign targeted to spread the word of a man named Joseph Kony. Joseph Kony is a leader of a rebel group called Lord's Resistance Army (LRA). Hundreds of children are abducted by LRA, given weapons, and forced to fight. One of the main people shown in the YouTube campaign is a Uganda child named Jacob. Jacob's brother was abducted and killed by the LRA. The director of the campaign promised Jacob that he would stop Kony. The goal of the Youtube campaign is to stop Kony like promised to Jacob. You may be wondering how could this be achieved? Well, Kony had actually been abducting children for almost 30 years. And until now, nobody really knew about it. This is where the YouTube campaign comes in. When the video was released, in less than two days it went viral. People all over the world began to spread the word. People on Facebook and Twitter were posting, "KONY 2012." This is exactly what the video wanted people to do: shed some light on Kony. Before the Kony issue was uncovered, the U.S. government didn't really do anything to help bring Kony to justice. This is because it didn't really seem like a big enough issue to become involved in at the time. When the video viral and it started to......

Kony 2012

...How did the video Kony 2012 by Invisible Children Inc. become so popular within a few days and why was the hype over just as quickly? Abstract This short paper is concerned with the popularity of the video Kony 2012. We will both analyze the popularity of and the criticism on the content of the video, by examining how the video became so popular, focusing on the usage of social media, and how the criticism on the video evolved. Next to the explanation of the popularity of the video and the criticism on the video, we will address the positive and negative aspects of Kony 2012. Introduction There is one video on YouTube, launched on the 5th of March 2012, with more than 93 million views, evidenced to be the “fastest spreading viral video of all time” (Steel in Cavanagh, 2012). This video is named Kony 2012, after the man Joseph Kony, number one criminal in the world (Invisible Children, 2012). Kony 2012 focuses on the war in Northern Uganda, between the Lord’s Resistance Army founded by Joseph Kony and the citizens of Uganda. In 1988, Joseph Kony founded the LRA, with the aim to clean the nation spiritually (Blattman, 2009). Because not many people joined the army by free will, the army started abducting people. When in 1995 the recruitment got stronger and stronger, they started to abduct on a larger scale. From 1995 to 2004 they kidnapped 60,000 to 80,000 younger people (Blattman, 2009). In the video, Joseph Kony is accused of abducting youth, forcing them to kill their......

Koney 2012

...In my opinion, as good as Kony 2012 sounds it seems to leave a great deal of information out and is somewhat confusing. The campaign truly is good at heart, but it doesn't seem to be very well managed or properly staffed to handle such a big idea. The fact that Kony 2012 is all around the world and everyone knows about it is good, but could also cause problems. The problem that could arise is that if the campaign falls through, Invisible children will look like a idiots when they’re really only trying to do good. Kony 2012 has many positives and negatives and to say the least, I'm somewhere on the opposing side. When you hear the basis of the campaign is to go into Africa and save helpless kids from a ruthless villain you automatically take the side with that Idea. In the end who wouldn't want save children, but you have to look at the details. In the Kony 2012 campaign they support the Ugandan military which has been accused of committing similar crimes to what Kony has done. In this situation saving kids by using military strength will only cause more death and pain.Going into Africa directly I believe will only make it worse for the people having to live there. With the help of Facebook and other social networking companies Invisible children is now on the map. Since the start of their Kony 2012 campaign they’ve raised over $8,676,614 and yet only 32% of that has gone to direct services. I understand that in this world it's hard to become nationally known, but the......

Starbucks in 2012

...STARBUCKS IN 2012 EVOLVING INTO DYNAMIC GLOBAL ORGANIZATIONS INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS POLICIES & STRATEGIES FALL QUARTER 2014 MARIA FERNANDA SVENSON CASTELLO SUMARY 1 – EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Executive Summary Is Starbucks, the famous coffee brand name, a global premium coffee? The answer that cannot be denied is YES. However, another question raised up is: “How did Starbucks get it?” To find out the answer for the second question, we have to look at its strategy. First and foremost, it is claimed that Starbucks has used broad differentiation strategy. From the beginning, Schultz chose top quality, fresh-roasted, whole-bean coffee as the company’s differentiating feature and bedrock value. After 1983 trip to Milan, recreating the authentic Italian coffee bar culture in the U.S was the additional differentiating factor. The ideas of how to design stores were started in 1991 that Starbucks formed a project team called “stores of the future” to in charge of bring out new ideas to decorate each Starbucks stores. They came up with 4 stores designs that each has its own color combination, lighting scheme and component materials. Schultz’s ambition was to create a “third place” that everybody can feel comfortable to meet friends, family … and it also has to be environmental friendly. Moreover, in this period of time, Schultz started to expand Starbuck’s products offering in order to make the products more accessible to customers and also to entered new market......

...Kony 2012: Critical Analysis I heard about the Kony 2012 video the day after it came out through a game I was playing online. It was all over Facebook and 40% of the people that was using Twitter were talking about Kony. The time I viewed the video, it had already gotten 20 million views and after 2 days it had gotten over 50 million views. It’s extremely surprising that a video would become so popular in just a day or so. People are nonstop talking about the issue and it’s still going viral all around the web. The age demographic of the people that are passionate about this are definitely the teenagers because they are more connected through the internet so through them it easy to spread the message. The video itself was a huge factor in order to the message across because of its content, the purpose, the format of the video, and the audience. The main objective of the video was the content, to tell people about the LRA leader Joseph Kony and his criminal activities. The purpose, format and the audience played a huge role in making the video viral. The format of the video was very emotional and dramatic, which makes the audience to keep watching. Their way to get the message across through to the audience was extremely successful. The audience became really emotional through the video that they had to let other people know about it. So it started to go viral in Facebook and twitter. It was all over the internet, such as YouTube, Vimeo, Mega upload, kony2012.com,......

Kony

...Do not assume that I'm trying to rebel against Kony 2012 because I think it's cool. I am not going against a popular cause for the sake of going against a popular cause. I am going against this cause because it is a flawed one. An exceptionally flawed one. There is a far better solution to the problem of children soldiers in Africa and the consequences of the situation than simply stopping Kony. It's great that they (Invisible Children Foundation) have raised awareness about Kony, but the way they did it, in all honesty, is disgusting. They hardly gave any facts. They mostly used pure emotions. Even the "facts" they presented were vague and gave no real background information. They used pure pathos with little to none ethos or logos. People have jumped on a bandwagon they know nothing about. I have known about and kept up with the Invisible Children foundation and children soldiers in Africa since the 5th grade. Yes, the 5th grade (which is five years ago, FYI). I know my facts. The foundation is not that trustworthy and their strategy is to simplify a complicated issue. To drop U.S soldiers in Africa is not a quick solution to the problem. To give an example which is quite similar (yet of course have some differences), you see what happened when we tried that with Iraq and Afghanistan? We dropped soldiers over there to stop terrorism and help those countries become democracies. Now we have two areas that aren't too fond of us and right back to where they started from.......

London 2012

...Upon approval of the bid for the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, the London Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG), was assigned the duty to strategically devise the plans for executing “the world’s largest peace-time event” (“The Times100, 2012). Tremendous efforts go into the planning and development of a mega event such as the Olympic Games. The vision for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games could potentially facilitate a substantial opportunity that will realize vast outcomes socially, culturally, economically and environmentally for the country beyond 2012 (“Times 100,”2012). However there are underlying concerns present that could potentially impact the local community, outweighing the benefits and the LOCOG’s efforts to achieve this vision. I will provide brief background information on the London 2012’s Olympic aspirations, and analyze the opportunities and debunk the concerns for the social, cultural, economic, and environmental aspects involved in delivering favorable results, according to the vision goals. I will follow with a discussion and analysis of the London 2012’s values and their effect on the goals of the Games. Then I will apply SMART methodology as a framework for measuring the London 2012 sustainability objectives. Finally I will evaluate opportunities for the local schools to become involved in the objective goals for London 2012. London 2012’s Vision Beyond the Olympic and Paralympic Games ...

Real Truth About Kony

...KONY 2012 Jillian Reid EGL 209 4/26/12 Prof. Rampello Introduction In media, information has many different ways of being distorted and formatted for viewers’ persuasion. In this day and age it’s almost impossible not to become a victim of it. How do we identify the fine line between manipulated facts and reality and whether or not we as an audience are being taken advantage of? This issue can strongly relate to the “KONY 2012” video that has been recently released. Many of the facts related to the conflict have been either modified or completely left out. So the question we must ask ourselves is: should Invisible Children, within their KONY 2012 video, be responsible for misrepresenting and diluting the overall complexity of the issue in order to raise money for their campaign? Ugandan History Uganda and Central Africa for that matter; have had conflict for many years. Due to its’ complex history there have been many reasons for the creation of the LRA and other rebel groups. Since 1962 divisions, due to ethnic conflict, armed rebellion has been seen by many groups in Uganda as the sole and legitimate means to express political grievances and attain political power.3In 1986, Yoweri Museveni took power over Uganda through his rebel army called the National Resistance Army (NRA). This was expected to end the division and rebellions during this period and long line of dictatorships but instead his rise to power perpetuated it. Since 1986 there have been at least......
