Identify and explain gender issues that arise in collectives
Gender issues refer to economic, social, political and cultural attributes, constraints and opportunities associated with being man or woman. Collectives on the other hand refers to a group of entities of people who share or are motivated by at least one common issue, interest, work together to achieve a common objective. The issues of self-help, mutual responsibility, equality, equity are held in common by all objectives. Sociological definition of collectives stress qualities like extra-institutionalism, network character, multi-centeredness, fluid boundaries of collective membership and willingness of members to disrupt order (Grlach & Hine 2005). Women have made their own movements or have been part of mixed gender social movements because they are members of social classes; they are workers seeking expression, inclusion and redress form authority. In the formation of collectives, gender issues arise which when not well addressed can cause major setbacks to the different collectives formed due to numerous factors that arise in the society in many cases.

Gender stereotypes Women are the most disadvantaged when it comes to collectives. This lies in the stereotypes that people hold about men and women. Men are considered to posses more genetic qualities that reflect greater competence and instrumentality that the women. Specifically, men are considered more leader-like, intellectual, analytical, and able to think abstractly, able to solve problems whereas women are considered kind, warmer, more expressive, supportive, and more gentle (Williams & Bast 1990). A new possibility is offered and this can influence individuals to adopt characteristics and thus fit in to the new classification. This differs from inert nominalism and realism as this label may not always be the same one used for the individual, as social change gives birth to new opportunities, individuals may move categories. This essay is going to explore Hacking’s term dynamic nominalism through the illustration of some of the issues in the emo society. The concept of dynamic nominalism claims that in giving a name to a category a new opportunity is created for human types to adopt. New types of people start to exist that in some respects did not before. We can see this through the emergence of the emo society. The term emo is short for emotional it was first used as a description for a genre of music named emotional hardcore, with lyrics full of sad and depressed emotions. As the music became more popular adolescents found a sense of belonging within the music, (Gorce 2005) and a new possibility that allowed their emotions to be expressed emerged. Michele Zanini Major crises and downturns often produce shakeouts that redefine industry structures. However, these crises do not fundamentally change an underlying structural trend: the increasing inequality in the size and performance of large companies. Indeed, a financial crisis—for example, the one that erupted in 2008—is likely to accelerate this intriguing long-term tendency. The past decade has seen the rise of many “mega-institutions”—companies of unprecedented scale and scope—that have steadily pulled away from their smaller competitors.1 What has received less attention is the striking degree of inequality in the size and performance of even the mega-institutions themselves. Plotting the distribution of net income among the global top 150 corporations in 2005, for example, doesn’t yield a common bell curve, which would imply a relatively even spread of values around a mean. The result instead is a “power curve,” which, unlike normal distributions, implies that most companies are below average. When a group of people are assigned to complete a task as a team, it can sometimes be difficult.
