...Heather Hefty Assignment 6 Worksheet (Resume and Cover Letter Analysis) Please write DETAILED paragraphs that summarize each document’s strengths and weaknesses, and then offer suggestions for revision (consider both content and design/organization). Please consider all of the discussion questions from the previous page, but do not just list out your answers to them. Don’t forget to COMPARE each candidate’s resume and cover letter, analyzing how they work together (or don’t). Resume 1 (Page 164, Anthony H. Jones) Strengths: Creative design that’s easy to read, Listed courses related to degree Weaknesses: Internship listed under education section, unclear of what he’s describing under references/webfolio section Revision Suggestions: Move internship description to Experience section, Bullet point and describe references/webfolio section Anthony’s design for his resume is creative and unique while still being easily readable which is a strength. I also like that under the Education section, he listed courses that relate to his degree so that an employer knows what he has experience with. A weakness with this resume is that he listed his internship under his Education section when it would be more appropriate to list it under his Experience section. Lastly, his References/Webfolio section lacks detail and organization. He should bullet point the different categories and explain what they are. Cover Letter 1 (Page 182, Anthony H. ...Duck and Cover Eric R. Drayton HIS/145 June 10, 2013 Gina Flakes Duck and Cover The society we live in today is so different than that of World War II. In that era the biggest threat of destroying society was the atomic bomb. In these times of today we face so many different threats of terrorism from other countries and from within our own cities. Even more than just terrorism, today’s society faces some many threats from within itself, such as Ganges in the inner cities, to the fall of inner city government through the influence from the sales of illegal drugs. The survival of a nuclear act was and all ways will be one of society’s main concerns. The atomic boom was the center of fear because, the technology had just been discovered and other countries had the technology in their hands as will. The U.S. had no real protection for the people from being acted by other countries, for the most part it was a wait and see game played with the threats between two countries. It seem to have such an impact on the people of that time it changed their life styles, from saving money for the further too the build and stocking boom shelters in their back yards. Comparing the threat nuclear war to the threat of terrorism today is different in many was in that terrorism has many different faces. Today’s terrorism comes not only from other countries but also comes from within the U.S. from some of our own people. Like the students of World War II, the students of......

At the same time, recruitment and selection also have an image problem. First, recruitment and selection are often viewed as ‘old’ ingrained HRM domains. It seems like the traditional recruitment and selection procedures have been around for decades, which is at odds with the ever changing internal and external environment of organizations. Hence, practitioners often wonder whether there are any new research-based ways for recruiting and selecting personnel. Another image problem for recruitment and selection is that a false dichotomy is often created between so-called macro HR (examining HR systems more broadly) and micro HR (examining individual differences). It is further sometimes argued that organizations should value macro approaches and write off micro approaches as not being relevant to the business world. We posit that these image problems and debates only serve to distract and fracture the field and hide the fact that excellent HR research and practice......

...Duck and Cover Hist/415 03/03/2014 James Fennessy Duck and Cover There are many questions in today’s society vs. the era of the nuclear bomb. Back during the cold war, it must have been brutal just thinking about a nuclear bomb dropping on us. Imagine being a child, and constantly having the fear of possibly being in the path of a nuclear bomb. The adults were just as afraid and nervous for the lives and those of their children as well. The government was always looking at nuclear weapons and showed its power with the bombing of Hiroshima during August 6, 1945. (Rosenburg, n.d.) With the knowledge that our country has today, and thinking of a nuclear war, no one could imagine living through one in this day and age. However, the threat of the nuclear confrontation is somewhat similar today. A nuclear war is very similar to the threat we see today with terrorism. Both of these threats can lead to a lot of mental issues, economic issues, and political issues. Not to mention the amount of stress of conflict has on the American psyche. The threat of terrorist attacks is immediate, but the nuclear threat does still loom. Although, both are dangerous, terrorists attacks are typically the explosion of buildings, bridges, and other highly populated areas. Nuclear attacks can decimate continents, and wide ranges of area. Terrorist attacks are normally minor compared to the attack of a nuclear weapon. Since the bombing of the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, we still......

...SDS-PAGE also called sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis is a technique used to separate proteins only by their size. SDS or sodium dodecyl sulfate is a detergent used to denature the proteins; they will unfold and will not have any secondary, tertiary or quaternary structure. Proteins will have a negative charge and they will move down the gel by their molecular weight. PAGE or polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis is a polymer of the neurotoxin acrylamide and a cross-linking agent called bis-acrylamide. Usually APS and TEMED are used as catalysts for the process of cross-linking. There are two different settings of running the polyacrylamide gel, denaturing gel and non-denaturing gel or native gel. Denaturing gel consists of using urea or SDS to denature or unfold proteins and subsequently separate them by their molecular weight. A non-denaturing or native gel is used primarily to analyze the tertiary and quaternary structure of proteins; therefore they do not need to be unfolded. SDS-PAGE is essential in protein analysis in different fields such as forensic, biochemistry, biotechnology, molecular biology and genetics. The SDS-PAGE gel has to be poured in two parts. The first gel that is poured is the resolving gel. This type of gel consists of 3 to 30 % acrylamide thus possessing small pores and a pH of 8.8. The second gel is called the stacking gel and it is poured on top of the resolving gel. Stacking gel has 8 to 12 % acrylamide,......

Web Page

...Being able to create a web page is an interesting development. In the beginning, researching which tutorials to use for this project seemed a little difficult for deciding which ones to use. There are numerous tutorials out there but only a few of them include specific tutorials and examples on how you can create a web page step by step. The main one that I used was a site named, Page Tutor which goes over each step on how to create your own page. I enjoyed using this site as my main resource to creating my web page because it gave specific examples as well as pictures revealing how the page will look on the internet with using certain codes. The process with creating my web page was not too difficult. In previous semesters, I’ve taken courses related to Web Development and Flash. They were interesting classes and while working on this project it brought back some of the things I’ve learned from those classes. A few things I had forgotten but overall I had fun while working on this web page. The coding was not too hard to grasp but it reminded me how easily you can make a mistake. Some of the mistakes I stumbled upon were not closing brackets or misspelling some of the coding on my page. This can take some time to realize what mistakes you’ve made which I spent quite some time looking over. This was an exciting and interesting project to work on. Hopefully in the future, I will continue with Web Development since it’s a stimulating process....

...Before writing a cover letter, its important to understand how it can help or hurt you. In the internship application process a cover letter is your first impression. It's an opportunity to tell a perspective employer why you’re the perfect fit for their internship and their office and just as importantly, a cover letter is an opportunity to tell an employer you don't care about their position, by writing a sloppy or template cover letter. Some valuable cover letter topics include, explaining why a position interests you, what you bring to the table, how you would be a great fit, or something unique about you that makes you different from the hundreds of other candidates. The ultimate goal of your cover letter is to get the reader excited to meet you for an interview to learn more. To summarize the points above, ingredients needed to make a successful cover letter are: Header with contact information: Including a header with your contact information on the cover letter makes you look professional and ensures your information will be easy to find. You should also consider including this header on all documents you’re submitting when applying, it demonstrates your professionalism and acts as an opportunity to brand yourself to the perspective employer.  Who is your audience? Try to find the person who is in charge of intern hiring and address your cover letter and resume to them. Statistics show you have a better chance of being hired if you know who’s doing the hiring......

...kinds of discrimination. Structural factors do not function independently from cultural and religious belief. On the other hand, culture cannot be blamed as the only cause of women’s abuse and oppression. Though, culture itself is shaped by other factors such as age, gender, class, race, ethnicity, immigrant status and sexual orientation argues, “the treatment of cultural differences must not erase structural power or it will undercut social change of the required political activism”. Justice In the context of healthcare , justice refers to distributive rather than corrective or retributive justice. By and large, justice concerns the equitable distribution of benefits and burdens unless exceptional conditions apply (Flew 1979). It covers fairness or even-handedness in dealing with patients and freedom from discrimination, and it is generally reflected in the phrase, allocate each to their own. Justice in healthcare tends to be largely focused on access to or denial of treatment in one form or another and may be something of a movable feast. For instance, one might ask where is the justice when some patients obtain access to expensive new drugs, the cost of which significantly erodes the available budget and increases waiting times for others? Does it make a difference if those expensive new drugs are potential lifesavers? Should we penalise chronic smokers with serious chest ailments or the clinically obese? Balancing and adjudicating priorities within limited......
