What If Bing Quits China

...censor the search results was the most important reason for giant Google to quit China. And Google's chief legal officer David Drummond pointed out in a blog post that at least 20 other large companies from a wide range of businesses were similarly targeted as the same reason. As another biggest company in the world, should our Microsoft’s Bing search engine follow Google exiting China? It becomes a big issue for us. Should our Microsoft’s Bing search engine follow Google exiting China? What if Bing quits China? What will be the results? Microsoft's chief research and strategy officer, Craig Mundie, confirmed in an interview with China Daily that Bing now has less than 1 percent of Chinese market share. Will Microsoft’s Bing take the high road or the low road in order to gain a bigger piece China's fast-growing Internet market? This report is to explore whether Microsoft’s Bing should quit China or not and the results will come from the decision. Especially on these most important parts such as profit, market shares, long-term development and reputation. ...Microsoft’s deal with Novell Linux and silent threat to other Linux competitors for possible litigation. Finally, Microsoft’s (unsuccessful) attempt to buy Yahoo in 2008 and later striking a deal with Yahoo that continues to cost the company money is another proof of their “bulldozer” strategy in overpowering competitive threats and using any available opportunity for market penetration and growth. A lot of smaller companies simply could not match Microsoft’s force, budget, and their multi-faceted approach: Microsoft was able to invest millions to improve their software to match competition (think Internet Explorer vs. Netscape Navigator), they were able to launch massive campaigns aimed at consumer education (think Windows vs. Linux and current Bing vs. Google campaigns), they were able to strike deals with anyone and everyone. Surely small companies could afford one of those strategies, but never all of them. If we were to apply our theoretical framework to answer the question of how Microsoft handled competitive threats over years, it is undeniable that they used the all-around approach when it comes to share of market, share of mind and share of heart. They targeted all three time after time, a good example is when in addition to gaining the share of market with competitive differentiation of Windows (vs. Linux) and improvements done to the OS, they also targeted the other two categories through consumer education and heavy promotion of the brand, making Windows almost......

Analysis: Delivering Bad News

...Delivering Bad News Analysis I chose to analyze a news conference that was given by Mayor Bing of Detroit on December 1, 2011. The purpose of the conference was to address the current state of the city’s financial crisis and reports that the State of Michigan is coming in to do a financial review. I will evaluate the physical aspects of the speech, including appearance, chosen location, and body language. I will also evaluate the content of Mayor Bing’s speech and give my opinion on whether or not he appropriately addressed the crisis at hand. Mayor Bing wore a professional, navy pin-striped suit with a crisp white collar and a lighter blue tie. What we wear can project or evoke different emotions. According to Carole Kanchier of the Huffington Post, some of the things blue represent are authority, structure, communication, dependability, trust and loyalty (Kanchier, 2012). These are all emotions that Mayor Bing needs his audience to feel for his message to be succesful. To further his authority Mayor Bing stood behind a podium that had the Seal of the Mayor clearly displayed on its front side. He also chose not to stand alone. Standing with him were members of the Detroit City Counsel, Labor Board, people he refered to as the faith-based community, and members of the Detroit business community. I believe the purpose of this was to show that he was not in this crisis alone and that he had the communities support. I’m sure by including these people with him......

...08 Fall 08 Fall A LOOK INTO IMPROVING BING’S BRAND IMAGE USING CAUSE BRANDING STRATEGIES Sheri Quek (14333) LASALLE College of The Arts BADCN3C A LOOK INTO IMPROVING BING’S BRAND IMAGE USING CAUSE BRANDING STRATEGIES Sheri Quek (14333) LASALLE College of The Arts BADCN3C The birth of Bing was supposed to mark the advent of a new competitive era amongst search engines. Through its evolutionary stages, from the humble beginnings of MSN Search to the revamped Bing, Microsoft have been preparing for their default engine to generate a larger share search engine oligopoly – one in which Google holds an overwhelming power in. Ultimately, Bing failed because of a wide variety of reasons, most notable of which had to do with the brand loyalty and association people had with Google and the lack of trust as well as the negative image that Bing had generated through its head-on collision with Google in the ‘Bing It On’ campaign where they made constant comparisons to the search giant in an attempt to portray Google’s lack of proficiency; and the emergence of news about them copying Google’s search results (Singel, 2011). Brand loyalty is very much based on the establishment of trust consumers have for the particular brand (Sirchuk, 2012) and companies like Google target this aspect by aiming to become a “brand for life” (Oneto, 2013). They (Google) allowed consumers to see how the brand could play a part in every stage of a person’s life and this in particular is crucial......

Porter's 5 Point Analysis on Web Search Engines

...due to the large scale of information and infrastructure already acquired by the biggest companies. Rivalry between Established Competitors: Medium * Currently the four biggest search engines are Google, Microsoft’s Bing, Yahoo, and AOL. However, Google has the largest piece of the market and seems to be ahead of the others with Bing being on the rise and the rest three very close to each other. Smaller ones such as Altavista, Lycos and Excite do not seem to pose a direct threat to any of the biggest four. Bargaining Power of Buyers: Low * Advertisers recognize that the biggest providers together concentrate the largest number of searches, around 95% of the total. Therefore there is no room for negotiating advertisement prices. Also, even if a few users change search engine, it is unlikely to have any effect. Bargaining power of Suppliers: Low * The essence behind the search engines is their computer infrastructure. The biggest companies have such wealth that they can keep acquiring as much infrastructure as they want. How to Stop Bing Lazy

...HOW TO STOP BEING LAZY Being lazy is a problem that most people in the world have. Some reasons could be physical and psychological. I personally am very physically lazy but also sometimes lazy in the mind to. Sometimes it can affect my everyday activities, and can also prevent me from finishing things that I need to do even if they are really important. A few ways to be more productive and motivated and less lazy would be to eat breakfast, exercise, and get into a routine. Breakfast is one of the most if not the most important meal of the day and it is recommended to eat breakfast every day. By eating a good healthy breakfast everyday it boost brain activity and energy. When eating a good breakfast it is important to not be eating junk food but to be eating fresh fruits, or things that have good nutrition and natural sugars that will give u that boost in the morning. Exercising is also a necessary to maintain a healthy body and mind. By doing the right exercises every day you will be making your heart stronger and bigger. You will also be making your blood vessels more elastic which will help the blood flow more easily through the body which will lower blood pressure. Exercise will also improve blood flow to the brain which will allow the brain to work more efficiently. Sometime when we don’t consistently do something it seems more difficult to do. For example if a kid consistently cleans their room it wouldn’t get that dirty and it would be easy to clean, but if...

Google vs Bing

...but Bing, Microsoft search engine, is another option. Microsoft has always been tried to take market share from Google. In the article “You are previewing premium content. Become an Insider to read the full article. Google: Bing Is Cheating, Copying Our Search Results”, Danny Sullivan (2011) examined how Google's search engine team set up its own “sting operation” in December to show that Microsoft's Bing is copying some of Google's search results. Amit Singhal, the head of Google's core ranking team, wondered that whether Bing copy the search results from Google or not. Therefore, Google has managed a team investigation for the implementation of sting operation by using a fraudulent website (which does not have in Google and Bing data storage), and using weird keyword such as hiybbprqag to do the experiment. Google use 20 engineers who were using the Google.com search through the Internet Explorer browser to install and launch Bing Toolbar, and open Suggested Sites feature. After Google has stored pages (indexing), they tried to search with Bing and showed the exactly the same page, and in the top even though the keyword “hiybbprgag” does not mean anything. From this event, Stefan Weitz (Director of Microsoft's Bing search engine) argued that we use several methods to organize rank websites, but we will not discuss in deeper details as well as other competitors in this market, we tried to find the best and most accurate search queries such as opt-in program from Bing......

The Importance of Bing Ernst

...‘Women are handed the role as the ‘handmade of laughter’, not its creator’. Discuss with reference to the Importance of Being Earnest Throughout the Importance of Being Earnest the female characters exercise power briefly, although they also confirm too many female stereotypes – ultimately ensuring that the play upholds traditional gender stereotypes instead of challenging or changing them. This causes the women to become the pun of the jokes within the play rather than the creator. The private and public spheres are the two gendered spheres that have become a common practice to think of the social world divided into two. The private sphere is the stereotypically feminine world of household, family, and unpaid domestic labour, while the public sphere is the stereotypically masculine world of politics and paid employed. The men and the women both uphold to the gender spheres or invert them. For example Lady Bracknell is unlike a conventional woman as she is portrayed to have the role of her husband and therefore fits into the public sphere rather than the private sphere. Both Cecily and Gwendolen within the play conform to their stereotypes and therefore become the butt of the jokes. Whilst Algernon and Cecily are talking, Algernon compares her to ‘a pink rose’ and Cecily replies with ‘I don’t think it can be right for you to talk to me like that.’ Algernon’s line about Cecily being ‘like a pink rose’ reveals that men flirt with women by praising their beauty. Although......

...SN Search MSN Search homepage in 2006 Windows Live Search homepage Live Search homepage, which would help to create the Bing homepage later on. MSN Search was a search engine by Microsoft that consisted of a search engine, index, and web crawler. MSN Search first launched in the third quarter of 1998 and used search results from Inktomi. In early 1999, MSN Search launched a version which displayed listings from Looksmart blended with results from Inktomi except for a short time in 1999 when results from AltaVista were used instead. Since then Microsoft upgraded MSN Search to provide its own self-built search engine results, the index of which was updated weekly and sometimes daily. The upgrade started as a beta program in November 2004, and came out of beta in February 2005. Image search was powered by a third party, Picsearch. The service also started providing its search results to other search engine portals in an effort to better compete in the market. Windows Live Search The first public beta of Windows Live Search was unveiled on March 8, 2006, with the final release on September 11, 2006 replacing MSN Search. The new search engine used search tabs that include Web, news, images, music, desktop, local, and Microsoft Encarta. In the roll-over from MSN Search to Windows Live Search, Microsoft stopped using Picsearch as their image search provider and started performing their own image search, fueled by their own internal image search......

Using Social Networking Sites for Hr Decisions

...the “tweet,” he was fired (Davison, Maraist, & Bing, 2011). This scenario, as do others like it, shows that human resources professionals are utilizing social networking websites in making human resources decisions. Sites like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and others are all at the disposal of human resources professionals. Job candidates, as well as current employees within organizations, need to understand that more and more human resources professionals within companies are using social networking even after someone is hired. “Such sites are useful for attracting qualified (as well as unqualified) applicants, may be able to reveal untapped job-relevant (and job-irrelevant) applicant characteristics, and may be useful for identifying employees who are harming the company’s mission and reputation” (Davison, Maraist, & Bing, 2011, p. 154). The article notes that using social networking websites by human resources professionals has only recently become popular and there needs to be research in several areas to use it to its full capability. Research will also provide guidance for those working in organizations that use social networking sites in making human resources decisions. One area of concern is recruiting. Using social networking sites as a recruiting tool “seems to be widely accepted because of its close relation to the act of posting a job advertisement on the Internet” (Davison, Maraist, & Bing, 2011, p. 154). One question raised is how......
