1) In the given info, there were two groups, an experimental and control group of flowers and sagebrush in a desert landscape that were identical except that the experimental group had a fence enclosed around it. Also, there was a predation relationship between the wildflowers and the kangaroo rats because the kangaroo rats eat wildflowers. Assuming that the fence was limiting the space of the experimental plot, competitive exclusion caused the extinction of the 4 other wild flowers. To begin, there was some interspecific competition, which happens when individuals of different species compete for a resource that limits their survival, between the 5 flower species in the experimental plot because they had their space limited to the fence that they were enclosed in. this competition was a density dependent factor in that the death rate rose when population density in the plot rose. Also, some of the specie’s ecological niches (like what nutrients they needed and how many branches would form) would have had to been the same or else they could coexist together. Then, one of the species of wildflower might have had a reproductive advantage like thorns to repel the kangaroo rats which would have allowed them to prosper and the other species to die out. This is the principle of competitive exclusion. On a tangent, the kangaroo rats would have learned to stay away from the wildflower with thorns by classical conditioning because they paired the idea of getting stung with eating that particular wildflower species and eventually stopped. The control plot, on the other hand, did not have a fence, so they had all the room to grow and didn’t not have to compete for the resources. The reason they didn’t grow even more from this is because they have reached their climax community. The population in the control plot was stable…...

...labor market is a source of the antagonism during the early years. I mean, Wilson even says it himself when he says “…the relationship between blacks and both working-class whites and the manager of industry seems to correspond more closely with the split labor-market theory of racial antagonism than with the orthodox Marxist explanations” (83). But again, if you just go back and look at it, you see that the most prominent problem was that the lower class whites had their job opportunities being threatened by the blacks willingness to take the jobs at a lower pay rate. The Chinese and the Black workers had different ways of moving up in the white community in terms of their class standing and status position. Wilson says that “…affirmative action programs have benefited those blacks who are able to qualify for the expanding white-collar salaried positions in the corporate sector…” (Wilson 100). The notion of affirmative action had started to take hold in America and was being pushed towards colleges, businesses, etc. This helped the blacks because big businesses started going directly to black colleges to look for potential employees. “…the average number of recruitment visits of representatives of corporations to predominantly black colleges increased from 4 in 1960 to 50 in 1965 and then jumped to 297 in 1970.” (Wilson 101) I’m not saying that affirmative action was the best way for it to happen, but it did help get black into the white collar jobs and give them the......

...company. Direct recruiting means that the business actively looks for new talented workers with its own time and resources. The range of direct recruiting includes a wide variety of ways that companies recruit, ranging from very simple ways all the way up to very extensive ways. An example of this is as simple as if a company such as a restaurant sends out one of their current employees to pass out flyers that state who they are and that they have positions open. On the other end of the spectrum, corporations often go on extensive searches to find a specific person for a highly respectable position. An example of this would be if a CEO retired from his company, a search would have to be conducted in order to find a new, qualified CEO who can take his place, which is not very easy to come by. In the middle of the spectrum, between handing out flyers and headhunting for a new CEO, there are more common recruiting that happens at colleges. Georgia Southern offers to its students one of the few logistics programs, so companies who are in need of logistics majors come to this college with their goals set of finding their future employees. All of these examples depict ways that a company can utilize its own resources in order to find the candidates they need in order to grow their business, thus making their company more profitable. Another way a business finds talented individuals is by way of indirect recruiting. Indirect recruiting is when a company uses an outside source such......

...or Medieval) civilizations that pre-date enslavement? Kush, Axum, and Ghana are three Ancient African civilizations that pre-date enslavement. The Kush civilization started in 1700 BC, where it reached its first peak. Its second peak dated to 1500 BC. The Kingdom of the Kush was also known as Nubia. It is located south of Egypt and was built at the bottom of the mountains, beginning at the Nile River. The Kush kingdom was exceptionally wealthy with many natural resources. They had gold mines, iron ore, and rich soil. Their soil was rich due to the ample amount of rainfall they had all year long, which kept all of the natural resources fresh and growing. Many kingdoms were jealous of the Kush’s wealth and prosperity, and wanted to take it over, but the Kush did now allow it to happen. The “Iron Age” was when iron ore was at its peak and every kingdom wanted it to make weapons and tools. Kush was the center of the iron trade in ancient Africa. Burnt wood was needed to produce iron from ore and because wood was running out, the Kush had to trade other goods. The Kush was the reason for the Trans- Saharan Trade Route. In 750 CE, the Kush used camels and camel trains to cross the sand. They knew it was a miserable and dangerous journey, but knew it could be done. Attention was then turned to trade with West Africa, starting the beginning of the Trans- Saharan Trade Route. The Axum civilization, also known as Aksum, dated from 100 BC to 700 AD. The capital of the......

For communication skill I started interacting with students share stories with them and listen to them. Handing in assignments with grammarly correct sentences and correct spelling. It might not be the best at least they will understand and know what I'm capable of. When I had an English class in last semester, I have to write reflection of the stories I red in pages long. One day my professor told me communication doesn't need to be long, short and get to the point can also be more effective. Next time when I worked on a similar task, I reminded myself from what my professor said on the communication I imply them on the task it allows me to save time, I have more time, and my paper become more effective than longer version I wrote in pervious assignments. Teamwork and Collaboration is everywhere around me that can't be ignored. ...must submit to a federal background check. Applicants are then chosen for civil service positions based on their experience and the status of their background check. Once an individual is part of the federal bureaucracy, promotions are based on merit. Merit based promotions replaced the spoils system for promoting employees after the Pendleton Act was passed in 1883. It gave employees the opportunity to be judged based on performance rather than social standing. The president, the congress, and the court constrain and balance the bureaucracy through bureaucratic reform. In order to balance power within the federal bureaucracy and make the federal bureaucracy responsive to the needs of United States citizens, reforms need to continually take place. This also allows power to be constrained and balanced throughout the federal bureaucracy. Congress has the most power over the federal bureaucracy. Congress has the power to eliminate uncooperative agencies that do not function according to its rules, and no agency can spend money without Congress approving the appropriation of funds. Q2: The federal court system is organized in a way similar to the federal bureaucracy. The federal court system is organized into a dual system. This dual system incorporates the federal court structure, and the courts of the fifty states. Like the federal bureaucracy, high-ranking positions within the federal court system, such as judge, are appointed positions. To become a judge......

...Assignment 1- Open Book Exam PHC100 – Professional Communications PHC100 Take Home Open Book Examination 1. You are a member of a decision making group at work where five people have a strong united vision, but three people including yourself, believe they are being dangerously optimistic, impulsive and misinformed. What social psychology theory of yourself and others would help you to maintain your own beliefs, and promote your minority position When working within a group in a professional context it is essential that we understand how the individuals interact with each other and the group as a whole. It is important to maintain a strong sense of integrity and professionalism especially as part of a minority where there is a desire to maintain one’s own beliefs and promote that minority position. Through the understanding and application of social psychology concepts such as a self serving bias and belief perseverance we gain an insight into an individual’s self perception and motivations. An appreciation for how these individuals interact within the group and how the group as a whole behaves can be gained via concepts of groupthink, group polarization and the power of minority influence. An understanding and the applications of these concepts will aid individuals and those within a minority to be both assertive and resilient in their own beliefs as well as promoting that minority position. A self serving bias has the effect of creating an inflated sense......

Exam One Take Home Portion

...Dana Kadlec HIST351 Exam 1: Take home portion Native American women both improved their lives and acted as agents for change that helped end traditional Plains Indian ways of life in several different ways. Native American women began to be an essential part of the fur trade as “intertribal go-betweens”. They were able to make trades more civil among tribes and Euro-Americans. Women would use their labor and sexuality to ensure goods and relations with outsiders. For example, when John Bradbury was journeying up the Missouri, he stopped through the Arikara village and was always accompanied by an Ariakarn woman who would examine his dress, repair moccasins, and generally this offer was “accompanied by a bedfellow.” While women gained power with the profit from their necessary assistance, they began to see the advantages of interlacing with Euro-American men’s lives. They began a necessity for Euro-American’s, and whether or not the men actually fell in love, they proceeded to have interracial marriages that would benefit both partners. For the women, they were attracted to the men’s technological advances as well as being better dressed, cared for, and fed. This all was subjected to how wealthy the man was, and how high in the hierarchy the woman was. It became so essential to the fur trade system that Indian men were beginning to question if the white men had women of their own. For some white men, polygamy was favorable but that also depended on the amount of money......

To find the profit maximizing price we have to count the margin for 1 unit for each price in the table: Price -Variable Product cost=Margin for 1 unit According to the predicted percentage of people who would buy the product we find out the exact number of deals by multiplying the amount of potential customer purchases by the percentage of expected deals. To find the total margin we use the following formula: Number of deals*Margin per unit= Total margin for each price. From the table below we see that the profit maximizing price is 600$ per unit. Price | Would buy | Margin per unit | Number of deals | Total margin | 800 | 0,1 | 450 | 300000 | 135000000 | 750 | 0,2 | 400 | 600000 | 240000000 | 700 | 0,3 | 350 | 900000 | 315000000 | 650 |......

...HR 434 Take Home Exam #1 1. What changes are occurring in the workforce relative to the kinds of work employees are performing? Before industrial mechanics, companies would spend up to 40% on pay and benefits for employees. With technology doing a majority of the manual labor, base pay costs and employment has declined dramatically. Now less than 20% of the workforce is doing manufacturing jobs. Now most of the workforce is in service related jobs. In contrast to manufacturing, the cost of labor compensation can be as high as 80% of revenue. Also, firms are reducing the employment ranks while increasing the responsibilities of the remaining staff. 2. Discuss what is meant by the term exempt employee and the various exemption criteria established for identifying this group of workers. An exempt employee is an employee who, because of his/her position duties, is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). "With few exceptions, to be exempt an employee must, be paid at least $23,600 per year and be paid on a salary basis, and also perform exempt job duties. "An employee who meets the salary level tests and also the salary basis tests is exempt only if he or she performs exempt job duties. These FLSA exemptions are limited to employees who perform relatively high-level work. Whether the duties of a particular job qualify as exempt depends on what they are. Job titles or position descriptions are of limited usefulness in this determination...
